MOOSE READS

So you’re tired of reading my blog. Fine I get it. My run on sentences and poor grammar are getting to you. No it’s fine, go read something else. I’ll just be waiting here till you get back….

You’re still here? How about if I tell you what to read? I’ve read a few books in my day. I’ll even rank them for you:

1. RICH DAD POOR DAD

Rich Dad Poor Dad fundamentally changed how I thought about money. The author contrasts two father figures, one who was “rich” and the other “poor”. The rich dad was a business owner and focused on having his money work for him. The poor dad was a school teacher who focused on getting a good education and job. It highlighted the power of building cash-producing assets like stocks, business and rental properties. And emphasized how the middle class buys things like houses they think are assets, but are really liabilities. The book will get you excited, but lacks actionable information. You’ll want to start investing but won’t know how.

2. A RANDOM WALK DOWN WALL STREET

Now that you’re excited about investing you need to decide what to buy. A Random Walk Down Wall Street goes into the ups and downs of market crashes. Explaining what caused them and how to plan for them. It emphasizes the power of index funds. And why picking stocks is a fools game. There’s a lot of detail in the book and by the end you’ll be convinced low cost index funds are the way to go.

3. THE MILLIONAIRE NEXT DOOR

The millionaire next door dispels myths about millionaires. I used to picture millionaires with fancy cars and giant houses. The book surveyed actual millionaires to see what they were like. It goes through their spending habits, jobs, families, and even religion. Spoiler – most are small business owners with an eye for frugality in their spending. Lots of insights and actionable habits to adopt.

4. SET FOR LIFE

Set for life attempts to make a road map to financial freedom. It starts at $0 and takes you through saving $100,000 and beyond. It’s full of actionable ideas such as the value of having roommates covering your mortgage, thus living for free!
